Soohyon Kim  President

Hello, my name is Soohyon(Sean) Kim and I currently serve as the president of the Bethany Chapter. I have been involved with Hwarang for three years. My journey began with a PR in the Austin chapter and later moved to Oregon and decided to establish a new chapter which eventually led me to my current position. The start of the  Bethany Chapter brought me a mix of stress and joy from recruiting my friends, volunteering with them, finding the right time and date, etc…

I not only learned a lot but also experienced personal growth.

Engaging in volunteer work, we encountered people in need, and this experience helped us mature into teenagers who are more empathetic and considerate towards others. I aspire to provide wonderful opportunities to our community. If you have any questions, need assistance, or require any help, please don’t heist to contact us at portland.hwarang@gmail.com

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

In December of 2022, the Bethany Chapter was established with five founding members, Soohyon Kim, Seohyon Shim, Yunseul Oh, Michelle Lee, and Chloe Shin. They were pioneers in starting a chapter in Oregon, and although they lost a few members along the way, they persevered with an unwavering dedication to community service and volunteering. In 2023-2024 the chapter's president - Soohyon (Sean) Kim, Secretary- Seohyun Shim, led their efforts in supporting the Oregon community through various initiatives, such as working at a local food bank, contributing to Children's Outreach programs, and assisting the Asian Health Service center. Their activities ranged from organizing and distributing food to sorting clothing, assembling strollers, and creating informative posters to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. Looking ahead, our chapter aims to keep growing and exploring new avenues for volunteering, while also actively seeking new members to strengthen our chapter. The Bethany Chapter aspires to show growth in our members and strengthen the community through the five loves of Hwarang, and aims to represent Hwarang with pride in the Portland area.

Our Bethany chapter helped with the event.
