SAN JOSE CHAPTER
Welcome to San Jose Chapter, one of the five chapters of Hwarang situated in Silicon Valley. The City of San Jose is a large city surrounded by rolling hills with a population of approximately hundred thousand people. It is the global technology hub with major tech companies like Google and Apple having their main offices in the area. The city was the first civic settlement in California, founded in 1777 as a Spanish farming community.
As a part of the San Jose community, our chapter members strive to contribute to the community through volunteering in Hwarang. We are passionate and enthusiastic to volunteer and spread positivity around our community. We believe that small acts of kindness that we take as volunteers will spread throughout our community and overall make a difference in our community and beyond.
Volunteer activities of the San Jose Chapter contribute to diverse aspects of our community. Some of our volunteer events include Discovery Shop volunteer, Coastal/Park Cleanup, and more.
DUBLIN CHAPTER OFFICERS
My name is Seohoo Lee and I am the current president of the San Jose Chapter in 2023-24 term. I’m a current Sophomore at Branham High school. I was born in South Korea and had become a member of the San Jose community in 7th grade. I joined Hwarang as a Freshman and became San Jose PR, and I currently hold the position of president. At the start, I was a really passive member, just doing tasks I was assigned to, but as a president now, I became more proactive and passionate about volunteering in Hwarang.
As a president of the San Jose Chapter, I have led many volunteering events such as Discovery Shop volunteer, Coastal/Park Cleanup, Tea coaster and Dalgona making for fundraising, and more.
It was a great experience being a leader this year and I look forward to volunteering in Hwarang next year as well!

ACTIVITIES
Discovery Shop Volunteer
Having been continued every Saturday for almost 3 years now, volunteers will go to Discovery Shop-San Jose to help out with operating the thrift shop. Discovery Shop takes donations like clothes to sell in the shop and all the profits fund various projects related to cancer. As a result of volunteering here, we seek to know how to raise funds to help the effort to eradicate cancer.
Dalgona Making
Dalgona Making was an event where members got to make Dalgona, a traditional Korean snack. In the process of making Dalgona, members were able to experience Korean culture firsthand. It was an exciting event with a lot of failed Dalgona, but overall, we made quite a lot and those were sold at the Vision Festival as a fundraiser for the Guatemala Eye Surgery.
Recycling Event
This is a recurring event happening every two months. Members would collect recyclables like plastic bottles and cans over the period of two months. Then we would meet up to sort them and sell it for funds. All the funds from this event has gone towards the Guatemala Eye Surgery.
