Comfort Women

Representing our Korean identity is an essential mission in Hwarang. Despite international efforts to spread awareness of the tragic history behind the Comfort Women, there are still many individuals that remain unaware of such events. As community leaders, we are passionate about spreading awareness of Comfort Women. Comfort Women were the Korean women who suffered as they were slaves sexually at concentration camps by the Japanese government during World War II. By spreading awareness of Comfort Women, we were able to help establish a Comfort Women gallery in the Glendale Library.

한국의 정체성을 표현하는 것은 화랑의 필수적인 사명입니다. 위안부의 비극적인 역사를 널리 알리기 위한 국제적 노력은 하지만 아직도 이사건을 인지하지 못하는 개인들이 많이 있습니다. 지역사회 리더로서 우리는 위안부 인식 확산에 열정을 쏟고 있습니다. 위안부란 제2차 세계대전 당시 일본 정부에 의해 강제수용소에서 노예 생활을 하며 성적 고통을 겪은 한국 여성들이다. 위안부에 대한 인식을 확산함으로써 우리는 글렌데일 도서관에 위안부 갤러리 건립을 도울 수 있었습니다.
